Trash to treasure art journal

With this journal I combined two of my favorite things, recycling and art journaling!

journal cover

Can you believe this journal was made out of paper bags?!

bird tag

All pages were gessoed and then painted with layers of acrylic paints and stencils.

soar page

With many layers of paints and inks on the paper bag pages, they became soft and plastic-y.  I absolutely love the texture and feel of these pages.

many tape transfers here

Of course tape transfers were used here and there all over this journal.

close up

This image on top of paint layers is captivating and FUN.

trust tag close up

Colored pencils tape transfer image just pops on a manila tag :)

wish page

Silhouettes made a showing in this journal too.

tapes and ruins

Tapes and a magazine image made such a strong impression over the gesso that I left the page as is.

 bike page

Photographs work well on art journal pages.  In this case the background colors and my bike photo just worked very well together.  Do you use photos when art journaling?!

play, soar, live

These adage tickets I've used throughout are from Tim Holtz idea-ology.  The dragonfly metal sticker is from momenta and I colored it with a layer of gesso and spray inks by Dylusions.

Do you art journal?  What is your favorite kind of journal to use, store bought or homemade?  I hope you enjoyed this peek inside my trash to treasure journal!
